The Body of Evidence started life as a short podcast. “Something uppity, like 5 minutes per episode,” said Chris last Christmas.

Yeah.

It has been growing much quicker than anticipated, and we are proud to announce the release of a brand-new website for it.

At bodyofevidence.ca, you will find the podcast, sure, but also a shared blog, videos made by me, videos made by Chris, videos made by both of us, as well as a handy listing of events where you can see us talk about science, medicine, health, and critical thinking.

I invite you to write in your email address in the “Subscribe” box on the right-hand side and to help us publicize this much-needed initiative.

And we would like to thank all the wonderfully talented people who have contributed to this project. They are listed on our “About” page.

The Body of Evidence Is Getting a Makeover

Videos_580

The Body of Evidence website (http://www.bodyofevidence.ca) is in the process of receiving a makeover. Rouge, eyeliner, new clothes, the whole pizazz. The project has taken on a life of its own beyond the podcast, and so we are very happy to bring you a beefier, one-stop shop for evidence-based medicine and metascience for the public.

A lot of people have been helping us over the past few months, lending their particular talent to the project. Joe, Isabelle, Thanos, Geoff, Anna, Vincent-louis, and a few more. We thank you profusely.

The new website will be released in a week or so and it will be accompanied by an important announcement.

In the meantime, don’t forget that tzatziki cures everything and don’t talk about your mom’s milk. That’s just weird.

The Body of Evidence – Episode 006 – Milk

TBOE Logo 2015 300

Is milk a creamy health elixir or a dangerous brew of bacteria? Is there both rhyme and reason behind pasteurization or does it destroy milk’s dairy goodness? In an attempt to answer the question, Jonathan and Dr. Labos battle lactose intolerance and osteoporosis, deliver a history lesson on Louis Pasteur, and get tangled up in brucellosis. Do you have a brain abscess? Stop listening now and go see a doctor. Take a picture of the pus but don’t send it to us.

Our street correspondent is comedian Jen Sakato and our singer-songwriter is Joseph Hackl of VoodooJazz.ca.

You can find the podcast on bodyofevidence.ca, on iTunes, Stitcher, SoundCloud, and as part of its production collective, MoutonsNoMore.com.

The Body of Evidence – Episode 005 – E-Cigarettes

TBOE Logo 2015 300

E-cigarettes are all the rage these days, and their manufacturers are claiming all kinds of things: they help you quit smoking, they’re healthier, they’ll enhance your sex life (OK, maybe not the last one). Is “vaping” better than smoking? Jonathan Jarry and Dr. Christopher Labos look at the body of evidence on e-cigarettes. Their addictive discussion is laced with lines from The Lion King, quotes from Shakespeare, and obscure phonological references.

Our street correspondent is comedian Thanos Michailopoulos and our singer-songwriter is Joseph Hackl of VoodooJazz.ca.

You can find the podcast on bodyofevidence.ca and on iTunes.

The Body of Evidence – Episode 004 – Beauty Products

TBOE Logo 2015 300

We all want to look younger, but are beauty products worth the money we pay? Jonathan Jarry and Dr. Christopher Labos sit down to talk concealers, Retin-A, photoageing, and tzatziki face masks. But the real question is: if this is radio, why is Dr. Labos painting his face like a clown? Maybe David Bowie has the answer.

Our street correspondent is Emily Bilton and our singer-songwriter is Joseph Hackl of VoodooJazz.ca.

You can find the podcast on bodyofevidence.ca and on iTunes.

Are vitamin supplements useful or wasteful? Dr. Christopher Labos and Jonathan Jarry look at the body of evidence on these ubiquitous pills and end up talking about grapefruit love, fake dating profiles, and pants.

A Musical Tease for The Body of Evidence

Courtesy of Joseph Hackl, our fantastic singer-songwriter who does jingles for The Body of Evidence podcast.

The guy is having such a blast, he decided to film himself recording drums for the episode 3 jingle.

You’ll only get to hear the full jingle when the episode comes out in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, you can binge listen on episodes 1, 2, and our bonus appearance on CJAD radio.

Also, check out Joseph’s band, VoodooJazz.ca!
